Johnson Controls India supports the go green revolution with tree-planting event
On the sunny slopes of Sonori Fort, volunteers from Johnson Controls India picked up shovels and joined the go-green revolution. To commemorate World Nature Conservation Day and support a more sustainable future, more than 150 Global Center of Excellence (GCOE) colleagues got down on their hands and knees to plant 500 saplings that will green the area, mitigate erosion and boost soil fertility. Our volunteers planted a variety of plants including Kadunim (neem), Peepal, Banyan tree, Karanj, Jamun, Arjun, Apta and Mohagani, many of which are also valued for their medicinal properties.
Inspired by the experience, the team is planning a follow-up initiative that will ensure the plants have water year-round. With the support of the locals in the area, which is also known as Malhargad and lies 30km from Pune, the team will install a drip irrigation system that will deliver a slow trickle of water to hydrate the roots, thus minimizing water usage and retaining soil nutrients.
These initiatives are part of the Johnson Controls India CSR program. The initiatives drive positive change and have a meaningful impact on our community and the environment. They also give staff an opportunity to give back to society and demonstrate our shared commitment to delivering on our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals.
