A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. In our case, the Global COE India team embarked on a journey to make our planet a better place. As a part of the CSR initiative, we partnered with the Aashray Durg Foundation to plan a mission to make our environment neat and clean.
Volunteers from GCOE Mumbai cleaning the beach The beach of Jhai, located in the western region of India, has its own sets of challenges due to waste that gets washed to the shore, damaging the marine ecosystem. Most of the villagers are fishermen, and the beach is integral to their livelihood. 25 volunteers from GCOE Mumbai traveled to the Jhai village together with the Aashray Durg team and collaborated with the local villagers to have the beach cleaned. We were joined by the local municipal authorities, who appreciated the effort taken by Johnson Controls and Aashray Durg for the betterment of the village’s ecosystem. Working hand in hand, the team slowly and steadily brought back the beach’s glory and made it sparkle. The waste was segregated and collected for disposal. During the whole activity, the team shared insights and discussed the various ways in which we can make the place neat and clean.
After completing the task, the volunteers educated the villagers on maintaining the ecosystem and keeping it clean and green. We also donated ample cleaning tools and educational materials to the village’s civic authorities.
Dr. Ulhas Vasave, founder of Aashray Durg, shared his journey of helping the people in the village with better medical facilities and ensuring cleanliness and hygiene within the village ecosystem.
It was an enriching experience for our team and made us realize the importance of everyone in the society. This project showed how even a small step in the right direction can bring a positive change in someone’s life. This helped us to value the things with which we are blessed and added to our resolve as Johnson Controls employees to contribute professionally and socially to all upcoming events.
